After coming to live with me over three years ago my father was diagnosed with vascular dementia and Alzheimer’s. The diagnosis explained his growing random behaviour, which included wandering, lack of time awareness and multiple shopping purchases not to mention his mood swings.
I work full time and I was his only Carer. The increasing pressure of managing his on-going safety in my absence whilst at work and running my own life left me fraught and often left Dad alone compounding issues. Despite regular attendance at Age UK, which he loves, the continued slow decline resulted in more stress over his happiness as he was struggling to manage being alone in the home.
After a recommendation from a family friend I sought help from There to Care. My friend had experience of their unique service. Eddie was so thoughtful and understanding with regards my situation. We settled on Carers from their wonderful team that fitted with Dad’s personality, this was key for me to find people who he would enjoy spending time with.
Dad now has a great time, his Carers help to keep him company, stimulate his mind with crosswords, trips and good conversation. His mood swings are greatly reduced, his demeanour improved and he laughs regularly with people he now considers his friends. All this was critical for me, at almost 90 his safety and mental welfare is crucial to my own sanity, reassuring me that I no longer have to worry about him whilst I am at work. The Carers have become welcome helpers around the home, relieving so many small pressures for me along the way with little jobs, but most importantly Dad is happy and content in our own home.
I would not hesitate to recommend There to Care – their consideration, care and overall support through difficult decisions and difficult circumstances is exemplary. It is due to their help that I am able to manage keeping my Dad at home in his surroundings both safe and happy.
"Eddie and his team have always sought to be flexible and helpful, adjusting times throughout the care period and as the need for more care has grown through circumstance the team have managed to accommodate our requirements with no disruption".Kind regards,Jacqueline Offen
