We have a number of clients with this debilitating condition, all of whom try their hardest to meet the challenges they face every day head on and be as independent as they can. Sadly, this is a progressive condition and we have had to adjust the support we provide as each client’s situation changes.
One example is our client who used to enjoy being taken to the gym and going out for a coffee but he is now housebound, with a feeding peg and needs 24 hour care. This is provided by his wife but constant attention to providing for a loved one takes a heavy toll and our help allows them some respite from this situation. These periods away from the all-encompassing workload give some relief from what must seem at times to be a never ending situation.
He keeps my garden under control and does the odd bit of decorating. He helps me deal with officialdom and speaks on my behalf when I struggle. He's a great support and makes me laugh which is the best tonic. I also have Norma who cooks nutritious meals for me as I'm not safe in the kitchen and along with Gareth takes me to and from the Kent MS Therapy Centre every week.
They also help with other practical difficulties and whereas I thought normal life as I knew it was over I now have a lovely team of carers to take the worries away and to lead a happy and fulfilling life. I couldn't be without them. Thanks There to Care.
